inABLE Book Shipping Event:

Saturday, August 7, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Please join us in preparing to ship 22,000 books to Kenya at a one-day volunteer event.
The books have been donated by supporters nationwide and a grant to cover the cost of shipping has been provided by Safaricom Foundation.

We need your support to sort the books and ready them for shipping. In just a few hours, you can have a direct, immediate impact, on the lives of schoolchildren and the blind in Kenya.

The books include both print and Braille titles, and will be used to establish libraries at the Thika School for the Blind and Kairi village schools.

A trip to the Library - Thika, Kenya

On January 18, 2008, we were able to take 60 children and ten teachers from Kairi village to Thika National Library, which is approximately 20 miles away from their homes. Read more… Children from Thika School for the Visually Impaired were also present. The purpose of the trip was to provide the children an experience of what activities they can expect when a library is present. It was also a wonderful opportunity for most children as less than three percent had previously visited a library. We prepared different activities for the children and introduced a photography session, giving each child a chance to photograph anything they chose. Collectively, this was a new and very exciting experience for all children involved.

Thanks to our sponsors for making the event possible:

  • Celtel Kenya
  • Kiriri Muya.
  • Kenya National Library Thika
